Paul Ainsworth – No.6 and Rojanos

Believe it or not Paul Ainsworth didn’t always want to be a chef. Born in Southampton, his parents ran a Guest House and he spent most his childhood working hard and helping out there. “I just wanted to work and earn money. I loved the idea of completing a task and to this day I enjoy the business side as much as the cooking.”

After years of living and working in the capital, in 2006 Paul met Derek Mapp and together they opened the Michelin Starred No.6 at Padstow. He took sole occupancy in 2009.

“The secret to Paul Ainsworth at Number 6 is the seasonal, local ingredients used to create plates of theatrical, well thought-out food. We have exceptional suppliers right here on our doorstep. We love sharing their passion and transforming these amazing products into great tasting food that is really personal – literally Cornwall on a plate.’

Paul Ainsworth at No.6 restaurant has had many successful years. In 2012, it made the Good Food Guide list of top 50 restaurants in the country and was also voted number 36 in the Top 100 Restaurant Awards. The same year, the restaurant was awarded its first Michelin Star and has retained it ever since. No.6 featured again in the 2018 Top 100 Restaurant Awards, proving that hard work and dedication really does pay off.

In 2010, Paul teamed with Derek again to take on a new venture – Rojano’s, an Italian style restaurant just off Padstow Harbour. “I have a passion for Italian food, so it was very exciting for me to be able to create new menus.” The stylish restaurant is situated in a beautiful 18th century building, complete with a terrace for dining al fresco. With recurring ‘excellent’ customer reviews noting the experience, atmosphere and outstanding food, Rojano’s is a must for Mediterranean inspired dished and sourdough pizzas.

More recently, in 2014, Paul and his wife Emma acquired the Padstow Townhouse, and in doing so achieved his long term ambition of offering his customers a way to extend their experience of both Padstow the Ainsworth’s award winning hospitality. It seems there’s no stopping Paul and his team, we know there are many more amazing years to come and a few surprises along the way too...
