If you love food and love cooking it even more, then Padstow, Cornwall is definitely the place to be right now, with the launch of Paul Ainsworth and John Walton’s latest venture; Mahe Cookery School and Chef’s Table.
Named after the place where Paul’s parents met and fell in love, you just know this place is going to be special.
You will find Mahe conveniently located right next door to No.6. The doors open up onto an elegant, intimate space, with the kitchen of your dreams, boasting an array of high-tech gadgets, including voice activated televisions screens that catch all of the action! It is here where guests can discover how to create stunning dishes or enjoy a personal and unique experience at the chef’s table.
All of this will be overseen by John, who has run the kitchen at No.6 for over 10 years. John first met Paul whilst they were both working at Petrus at The Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge. After a successful career in London, John moved back to his hometown in Cornwall to work for Rick Stein at The Seafood Restaurant as the Sous Chef. During his time here, John received a surprise phone call from Paul about an exciting Padstow project. In May 2006, John joined the No.6 team and in 2009 when Paul and his wife Emma took over the restaurant, John became Head Chef. John plays a vital role in recipe development and maintaining No.6’s high standards. In 2009, John was awarded South West Chef of the Year and helped gain the restaurant a coveted Michelin Star in 2013. With so much experience and passion, we can think of no-one better suited to teach the foodies of Padstow and beyond.
Mahe is a boutique cookery school; intimate and relaxed, where you can learn how to cook up No.6 classics and family favourites. From mastering the art of pasta making to hints and tips on Dinner Parties to traveling the world with noodles, curries and spices – there has certainly been a lot of thought and passion put into the cookery school courses, tailored around food lovers and home bakers.
As well as learning new techniques and recipes, the course also includes a goodie bag, your own chef jacket and a delicious breakfast and lunch. The Ainsworth family make each guest feel so welcomed, their hospitality is famous, which will make you want to go back for more. Mahe is no exception.
