Kenny Atkinson Profile

Kenny and Abbie Atkinson are the proud owners of the multi award-winning House of Tides, a fine dining restaurant with a renowned, ever-changing tasting menu located along Newcastle-upon-Tyne’s iconic Quayside. The restaurant is credited with putting Newcastle firmly on the foodies’ map of the UK and was named the AA UK Restaurant of the Year in 2016.

Born and bred in Newcastle, it was always Kenny’s ambition to open a restaurant in his beloved hometown. House of Tides opened its doors in January 2014, after Kenny and Abbie put their all into the restoration project of what was once a merchant’s tavern. The restaurant is the proud holder of 4AA Rosettes and a Michelin star, which was awarded just a year after its opening!

Kenny is no stranger to Michelin success either, having been awarded his first star back in 2008 when he was Head Chef of Scilly Isles restaurant Teän. This led to a Head Chef position at the White Room Restaurant in Seaham Hall in County Durham, where he claimed another Michelin Star.

Kenny has worked in some of the UK’s best loved restaurants, including his role as the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel’s first Commis Chef. His reputation was really cemented when he took over as Head Chef of the Greenway Hotel in Cheltenham which gained 3AA Rosettes under his command.

Kenny’s bold and ambitious cooking has brought him critical acclaim over the years. He was named Cateys Chef of the Year 2009 in addition to winning BBC2’s Great British Menu in both 2009 and 2010. This was just the beginning of Kenny’s TV career, with him going on to appear on BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen and more recently ITV’s Saturday Morning with James Martin.

Kenny is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon either – this proud Geordie is unstoppable! Follow the link here to browse Kenny’s shop, filled with the very same plates he uses in his restaurant, or click here to find out more about the famous House of Tides.
