Known locally as the king of the London dining scene, Jason Atherton’s reputation alongside his restaurant empire spans the globe, with an incredible 16 restaurants around the world, all established over just seven years.

A rising star from day one, Jason left home at 16, trading his hometown in Skegness for the big smoke of London town in pursuit of his dream of becoming a chef. Jason’s passion and commitment made him the first British chef to complete a stage at the famous ElBulli restaurant in Spain, notorious for their controversial and experimental style. It was here, from the invaluable experience of working under chefs Pierre Koffmann, Nico Ladenis and Marco Pierre White, that Jason developed his own unique creative style.

From here, he joined the Ramsay Group in 2001 as executive chef for Verre in Dubai. Over the next 9 years, Jason and Gordon Ramsay oversaw the launch of Maze restaurants in Prague, Cape Town, Melbourne, Qatar and several London locations. In June 2008, Jason won the third series of BBC2’s Great British Menu, which he has returned to as a host over the past few years.

In 2010 he left Gordon Ramsay Holdings to launch Jason Atherton Ltd, opening his first restaurant Tale No 1 at the Waterhouse in Shanghai in May 2010. The following year saw the launch of Jason’s flagship restaurant Pollen Street Social in Mayfair. Within six months of opening, it was awarded a coveted Michelin star and currently has five AA rosettes. From here, Jason’s empire grew with great speed and now stands at 16 superb restaurants based in Shanghai, Sydney, London, Hong Kong, Dubai, the Philippines and New York.

Jason’s list of personal accolades is immensely impressive, including the prestigious ‘Chef Award’ from the Catey Awards 2012 and ‘Chef of The Year’ by Caterer and Hotelkeeper, considered the chef equivalent of an Oscar.

Between launching new restaurants spending time with his wife Ihra and daughters in London, Jason has also released 3 cookbooks Social Suppers, Social Sweets and Gourmet Food for a Fiver. His recipes and articles appear widely in magazine and newspapers and he is a regular guest on Saturday Kitchen. Alongside his cooking and entrepreneurial successes, Jason is an active charity volunteer and patron, where his efforts have raised over £2m for various charities.
