JAMES SOMMERIN’S 9000 MEALS FOR THE NHS

There’s not many who can say between three people they’ve cooked 3,000 meals in a week and 9,000 meals in under 1 month, however, our Goodfellows at Home, 4AA Rosettes and Michelin starred chef James Sommerin, his wife Louise and his daughter Georgia are doing just that.

After Covid-19 brought the devastating news to those working in the hospitality industry having to close their doors, James and his wife, like many others ordered a bulk of ingredients and introduced a takeaway service from their restaurant in Penarth, Cardiff (James Sommerin Restaurant) to cater for their local community, however soon aborted this mission and put the safety of his family first. Left with a mountain of ingredients but no takeaways to cook, they made the decision to give back to those who are risking their lives to protect the rest of us and cook meals to donate to our NHS staff.

James, Louise and their three children packed up and moved into their restaurant, for both productivity and safety to protect their property and began cooking.  Within the first week they donated 3,000 meals to the University Hospital of Wales – Heath Hospital, in Cardiff. Three weeks into their amazing initiative, as a family they have cooked and donated over 9,000 meals and since joined together with 5 other local businesses to donate meals and raise money through a campaign called #FeedTheHeath to be able to continue purchasing ingredients and supplies.

With all that is happening in the world right now, it is astonishing to see the vast amount of kindness and goodwill that is being passed around and delivered to those who really need it. On top of all of the above, James and his wife Louise are going that extra mile to really put a smile on the face of the staff by writing positive messages on top of each meal tub, along with what dish is inside (pictured).

If you’d like to donate, where all money raised goes solely and directly into purchasing supplies and ingredients to be able to continue this fantastic and selfless initiative, head over to James’ Go Fund Me Page.
